About Me

I am an editor based in New Orleans, Louisiana, where I live with my three children, a dog, and a cat. I have always loved the art of writing. I wrote my first story when I was six years old. It was the tale of a heart who searched the world for happiness, which it finally found when it encountered another heart. I wrote my first novel in the sixth grade by hand in a three-prong folder, which mostly chronicled the social struggles of a girl hoping for popularity. A cliche idea, of course, but I can still remember how proud I was as the folder thickened with pages and pages of my words.

I continued to write throughout high school and college, though I majored in the sciences. In my junior year of college, I switched my major from Microbiology to English. While I loved the study of living things, I found that my longing was always for the written word. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English and then faced the difficult choice: what next? Did I want to write? Teach?

I spent some time locked in my home office, experimenting with various plot ideas and writing books. I started to realize that my true joy came once the writing was done and I got to pick up the red pen. There is just something about taking words and making them better. Making a story rise to its fullest potential. And, honestly, my editor’s soul rejoices at the red marks on the page, even if they are all done electronically these days.

And so, I decided to try my hand at freelance editing. I have always done well in the rules of the English language. I was fortunate to grow up in a home with parents who were meticulous about grammar, and I have an ear for languages. I began offering to help any writers I knew. I would proofread and offer editing suggestions for free. I gained some experience with a screenwriter and director who were working on a movie in California. Eventually, I started my own business working online as a freelance editor and proofreader. I found that I loved the work. I get to wake up every day and do my favorite things in the world: read and improve stories. The rest, as they say, is history.

Experience:

I specialize in combined editing services, offering packages that include content editing (structural and developmental), line editing, and proofreading. I recommend that manuscripts be edited and revised for content before being proofread. However, many clients prefer to have both performed at once. I offer the ability to improve a story and perfect its sentences in one package. I have worked on many different types of documents, including:

  • Novels

  • Novellas

  • Short stories

  • Non-fiction

  • Articles

  • Blog posts

  • Website content

  • Academic papers

  • Amazon and Ebay listings

I accept all genres of writing, including those with gore, sexual content, and controversial issues.

I have worked as a freelancer on sites such as Fiverr, Upwork, and Freelancer.com

I also write and maintain a blog on the art of writing and editing, which you can find here.
